SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The DevOps-Engineer  is responsible for delivery of  DevSecOps solutions following Agile Values and Principles at enterprise level. This role requires proven hands-on delivery experience in adopting and evangelizing practices and principles of DevOps to provide repeatable, consistent, and incremental program artifacts and modules. This role requires regular interactions with SAFe Agile leadership team, Development, Cloud Platform Engineers, cyber security, and quality assurance team. The DevOps Engineer  works hand-in-hand with architecture group. Key activity of this role is to deliver  DevOps code  build and deployment functions from Development thru Production.

This is individual contributor role with high degree of hands-on delivery experience in the DevOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, Jenkins, AWS Code Build Or related products. Good understanding of Cross Region deployment/Development is a desirable quality.

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Have a working knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, XP, and Kanban. Experience in working with Agile coach is highly desired.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-As-Code development and deployment.
  • At least five years of of experience in DevSecOps (CI/CD ) using tools like Jenkins or AWS Code Pipeline or Azure DevOps.
  • Implement automated DevSecOps frameworks based on Amtrak specific standards and security guidelines in cloud eco system.
  • Deliver Code Build and deployment functions from Development thru Production.
  • Collaborate with DevSecOps Platform and Cloud Engineering team to provide feedback in creation of Tool Chains and DevSecOps framework.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code to realize automation and CI/CD pipelines for repeatable deployment patterns in cloud (Blue/Green, Canary etc…).
  • Acts in a consultative manner and provides technical subject matter expertise, system implementation, administration, and technical support.
  • Experience in Cloud Native development on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud platforms

 


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems Management, Computer Science, Civil Engineering or other closely related management or technical discipline.  
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in IT systems implementation, integration, or operations
  • Hands-on detailed oriented delivery mind set using DevOps tools, practices in order to reduce Time-To-Market.
  • Cultivate collaborative partnership among stakeholders to enable scoping, financial and resource decisions
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program execution and work across organization to establish and monitor mitigation plans
  • Available for Production Support with deep understanding of trouble shooting

 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Information Systems Management, Computer Science Engineering or other closely related management or technical discipline. Or Bachelor’s degree in above disciplines backed up by 7 years of on-the-job experience.
  • Prior experience with public/private product development group.

 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Position reporting structure is in Washington DC, but the role is available for either Hybrid/remote or from office space available in several locations along the Amtrak Northeast Corridor.
  • The DevOps Engineer may have need for occasional travel, no more than 30% of the time, as the needs of assigned projects direct.

The salary range is $123,410 - $159,940 for the DT Principal DevOps Engineer. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
