The Director DevOps  is responsible for oversight and delivery of  DevSecOps solutions following Agile Values and Principles at enterprise level. This role requires proven hands-on delivery experience in adopting and evangelizing practices and principles of DevOps to provide repeatable, consistent, and incremental program artifacts and modules. This role requires regular interactions with SAFe Agile leadership team, Development, Cloud Platform Engineers, cyber security, and quality assurance team. The Director DevOps works hand-in-hand with architecture group. Key activity of this role is to Manage Code Build and deployment functions from Development thru Production. Individuals in this role may have direct reports or matrixed subordinate team members as the needs of the program dictate. This role will have direct oversight responsibility of junior team member deliverables and mentorship. 



  • Possess a deep understanding of Agile Mindset, Values, and Principles (e.g. Agile Manifesto, 12 Principles of Agile, DevOps Mindset/Culture, etc.)
  • Have a working knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, XP, and Kanban
  • Good understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) will be of great value to Amtrak.
  • At least 10 years of of experience in DevSecOps (CI/CD, Automation, IaC)
  • As a DevSecOps lead, responsible for leading a team of DevSecOps engineers to work on  Amtrak’s high complexity projects in Cloud Environments (AWS or Azure) aligned with Agile methodologies.  
  • Implement automated DevSecOps frameworks based on Amtrak specific standards and security guidelines in cloud eco system.
  • Manage Code Build and deployment functions from Development thru Production.
  • Collaborate with DevSecOps Platform and Cloud Engineering team to provide feedback in creation of Tool Chains and DevSecOps framework.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code to realize automation and CI/CD pipelines for repeatable deployment patterns in cloud (Blue/Green, Canary etc…).
  • When involved with a project team, leads complex system analysis and design activity, acts in a consultative manner and provides technical subject matter expertise, system implementation, administration, and technical support.
  • Experience in Cloud Native development on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud platforms




  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems Management, Computer Science, Civil Engineering or other closely related management or technical discipline.  
  • 15+ years of relevant work experience in IT systems implementation, integration, or operations
  • Hands-on detailed oriented delivery mind set using DevOps tools, practices in order to reduce Time-To-Market.
  • Cultivate collaborative partnership among stakeholders to enable scoping, financial and resource decisions
  • Hire and mentor staff and matrixed team members and provide direction on adherence to Cloud platform architecture as well as SAFe principles. 
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program execution and work across organization to establish and monitor mitigation plans
  • Identify efficiencies and present recommended improvement opportunities at various levels of management




  • Master’s degree in Information Systems Management, Computer Science Engineering or other closely related management or technical discipline. Or Bachelor’s degree in above disciplines backed up by 10 years of on-the-job experience.
  • Prior experience with public/private product development group.
  • Prior experience managing programs or major projects in the transportation industry environment




  • • Position reporting structure is in Washington DC, but the role is available for either fully remote or from office space available in several locations along the Amtrak Northeast Corridor.
  • The DevOps Director may have need for occasional travel, no more than 30% of the time, as the needs of assigned projects direct

The salary range is $159,750 - $207,030 for the Dir DT DevOps. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
