SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
We’re seeking a detail-oriented and creative intern to support our Creative Services team within the Corporate Communications department. The intern will assist with graphic design projects, video editing, and digital asset management that support Amtrak’s brand storytelling efforts across digital, print, and video platforms. The intern will work closely with the in-house multimedia team and PR team to help produce high-quality visual assets that align with Amtrak’s brand standards. This position is ideal for someone passionate about design, proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro), and interested in visual storytelling and multimedia content creation. The intern will also help maintain and organize files in our Digital Asset Management (DAM) system, and will have opportunities to assist with photography, videography, motion graphics, and animated images.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Graphic Design Support: Assist with creating branded visual content, including digital graphics, presentations, signage, social media assets, and print collateral.
- Video Editing & Motion Graphics: Provide editing support to create regular 30–45 second video packages, enhance videos with motion graphics, lower-thirds, and simple animations to improve storytelling.
- Template & Layout Production: Help design and update layout templates for brochures, posters, infographics, and corporate documents.
- Digital Asset Management: Organize, tag, and maintain design files, project folders, and brand asset libraries in the DAM for easy retrieval and long-term preservation.
- Multimedia Assistance: Provide light support for photography, videography, and animated image creation as needed.
- Brand Alignment: Ensure all design work follows Amtrak’s brand guidelines for typography, color, and visual identity.
- Creative Collaboration: Participate in team brainstorms and provide input on campaign visuals and concepts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
- Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Media Arts, or a related creative field.
- Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
- Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with video editing tools like Final Cut Pro
- Experience with Canva
- Basic copywriting skills to craft compelling hooks and copy for graphics or video titles
- Project management experience
- Knowledge of effective media relations and communications best practices
- Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and collaboration proficiency
- Ability to work and thrive in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated proficiency with AP style
- Ability to work and manage multiple projects, simultaneously and provide ongoing metrics on activities Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and social media tools
Fall 2025 & Spring 2026 prgram will run from October 6, 2025 - April 24, 2026.
The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
