SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Lead Business Analyst is member of the loyalty marketing team and serves as the owner of daily operational activities for Amtrak's loyalty program, Amtrak Guest Rewards. The Lead Analyst will work with the Amtrak Guest Rewards team, the IT department, the contact center team, Amtrak's external loyalty vendor, and other internal and external stakeholders to address routine operational needs for the program.


This role will serve as a business subject matter expert (SME) for the program's technical and operational processes as well as loyalty and member related data. Clear written communication skills in this role are critical. The Lead Analyst will be responsible for communicating program insights and operational concepts, as well as reviewing work products from IT and the loyalty vendor to ensure they are clear and accurate. They will also perform project management functions to track project performance against Amtrak's goals and expectations. The Lead Business Analyst will also assist with development of insights based on member and non-member data and work with stakeholders inside and outside of Amtrak to ensure program data is accurate and accessible.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Act as a SME for Amtrak's loyalty program functionality and implementation. Prepare communications regarding program changes for internal stakeholders. Act as liaison between internal departments (IT, contact center, loyalty team) and loyalty vendor.
  • Manage project timelines, deadlines and deliverables for loyalty program projects. Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements on loyalty-related projects. Review of project documentation to ensure clarity, accuracy, and completeness. Participate in user acceptance testing for new loyalty program technology deployments.
  • Analyze loyalty member data to develop insights on member behavior and program KPIs. Effectively communicate insights to departmental leadership and stakeholders. 
  • Manage escalation and support processes for member issues 
  • Provide monitoring and oversight of loyalty vendor's operational functions and reports. Review and manage access requests for loyalty program applications. 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, data science, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
  • 6 to 9 years of professional experience in roles that involve technical concepts or data analysis.
  • Familiarity with loyalty program concepts, particularly with regard to travel and hospitality programs
  • Comfort with technology, technical concepts, and ability to read and understand technical documentation
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) or other equivalent software.
  • Experience with analyzing data sets  
  • Basic familiarity with SQL
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years experience in roles that involve technical concepts or data analysis.
  • Experience managing projects, particularly those with a technical component
  • Prior loyalty marketing experience, particularly in the travel, transporation or hospitality sector.
  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization and business inteligence software such as Tableau or Business Objects
  • Experience writing and reviewing technical business requirements.
  • Familiarity with technical business processes including development timelines and requirements documentation.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and JIRA
  • Ability to travel for business up to 10%

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
