Job Summary
The Lead Data Analyst - Revenue Management Systems is an individual contributor role reporting to Director, Revenue Products and Business Planning within the Pricing, Revenue Management, Sales and Distribution (PRMSD) department at Amtrak. This role combines advanced systems analysis, hands‑on data science and Operations Research modeling, and close collaboration with Revenue Management team (product users), SMEs, vendors and Digital Technology teams.
The analyst will serve as the primary owner of Revenue Management System (RMS) steady‑state operations, a co‑owner of the RMS product roadmap alongside user representatives and contribute hands‑on towards advancing product utilization and future product transformation. An ideal candidate is user‑centric, technically strong, curious, and comfortable blending system stewardship with forward‑looking solutioning.
Essential Functions
RMS Steady State Operations:
- Collaborate with Digital Technology and vendor support teams to ensure system reliability, data integrity and quality across integrations between RMS and various commercial systems including the Reservation System.
- Oversee batch processing, error resolution, and recurring RMS operational health checks.
- Conduct troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and collaborate directly with vendor and Amtrak digital technology teams to resolve system issues.
- Test, validate, and document vendor product updates, version upgrades, and enhancements.
- Communicate system changes, risks, and operational impacts to the users.
- Perform regression testing as prescribed by Enterprise Release Management.
Product Vision, Analytics & Technical Innovation
- Apply advanced analytics, AI/ML, and Operations Research to improve RMS forecasting, optimization, and demand‑pricing capabilities.
- Understand supply/demand, pricing structures, and product offerings to guide system‑level recommendations.
- Collaborate with Business Planning to align RMS evolution with long‑term opportunities and challenges.
- Evaluate new ideas using data, build prototypes/POCs, and develop analytically validated insights to inform product enhancements.
- Work with vendor R&D and product teams on model development and analytical performance evaluation.
RMS Roadmap, User Engagement & Change Management
- Co‑own the RMS Wish List, prioritizing system gaps, user pain points, and enhancement needs.
- Drive change management, including documentation of best practices and creation of training content.
- Support onboarding, training, and end‑user engagement to maximize system adoption and ROI.
- Influence vendor roadmap development and validate delivered enhancements against business expectations.
Project Execution, Integration & Quality Assurance
- Participate in ideation, scoping, and requirements drafting for capital projects and system integrations.
- Collaborate with vendor teams on new model development, performance assessments, and integration deliverables.
- Develop and execute QA/validation plans for new features, data models, and system enhancements.
- Track project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies; provide concise status updates.
- Ensure completed initiatives transition smoothly into steady state operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in an advanced analytical role using Operations Research or Machine Learning.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and demonstrated ability to work with large complex datasets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to relate multiple datasets from complex business processes, simplify and transform them into meaningful features, ready to be consumed in predictive models.
- Demonstrated experience in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for end‑users while engaging deeply with technical and R&D teams.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field
- Practical, hands‑on experience applying AI/ML techniques such as supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning to solve real-world problems.
- Hands‑on Revenue Management or RMS operational experience a plus.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle concepts and change‑management frameworks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated communication skills, both written and oral, proven with individuals at all levels of an organization, including senior leadership
- Proven ability to work independently on multiple tasks
- Proven ability creating documentation on technical issues that can be understood by lay people
- Proven ability at project planning and at collaborating in groups
The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 – $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
