Job Summary

Analyze the company's results as well as the results of its individual business units including ancillary, capital as well as route businesses. Manage certain reporting requirements to senior personnel as well as to the Federal Railroad Administration, Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General and liaisons with the Government Accountability Office.

Essential Functions

  • Review monthly financial and operational data for unexpected changes in company performance, investigate their causes, and make recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Produce financials (balance sheet, income statement and capital) period over period and budget variance reports as well as monitoring and coordinating departmental capital production summary metrics as part of the Monthly Performance Report for dissemination to Amtrak management and over the Intranet and Internet. Will develop metrics for monitoring certain Cost Management Initiatives and report results on a monthly basis. Responsible for submission of Operating and Capital Forecasts as well as yearly Budget input.
  • Develop annual plan, monthly forecasts and 5-year plan for operating expenses, capital expenditures and headcount.
  • Analyze monthly department results to maintain expenditure controls and report on variances.
  • Perform data-driven financial modeling and analysis and provide recommendations based upon the results.
  • Routinely communicate with finance management and business partners regarding financial performance trends, historical and forecasted, using appropriate variance analysis. Suggest trends, resulting implications, key actions, and strategic implications.
  • Create processes and build data driven financial models to improve forecasting, support decision making and create efficiencies

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Significant experience or training in financial analysis
  • Understanding of financial system operations, including strengths and weaknesses of system data used for operational analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize the wide variety of functional costs impacted by operational changes
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, notably the ability to work with management and union personnel and across teams with widely diverse educational, cultural and employment backgrounds for the collection of information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong skills using PC-based spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel, Access); Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, sufficient to prepare effective analyses and presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively within a cross-functional teamwork environment

The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 – $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
