Opportunities: Lead & Principal Value Management Specialists for Digital Technology

Amtrak will be hiring experienced Value Management Specialists to support the Digital Technology (DT) Portfolio and Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) practices across the organization. Open positions may include:

These roles will support portfolio-level planning, value tracking, OKR alignment, and Lean Portfolio Management processes that enable prioritization, transparency, and improved business outcomes across DT. Opportunities may include:

  • Identifying and managing business and engineering OKRs
  • Supporting portfolio-level demand intake, prioritization, and roadmapping
  • Implementing Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) practices
  • Partnering with Product Management, Delivery, and VMO teams to drive value optimization
  • Supporting or leading Portfolio Kanban processes from ideation through implementation
  • Developing and maintaining value dashboards, metrics, and reporting
  • Coaching teams on Lean best practices, value delivery, and continuous improvement
  • Supporting governance and compliance across hybrid PLM/LPM environments
  • Advising leadership on value realization and portfolio outcomes (Principal level)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates will bring experience aligned to the Value Management job family, including the core responsibilities outlined in the Lead Value Management Specialist job description Lead Value Management Specialist.

Portfolio & Value Management

  • Experience implementing Lean practices and/or Lean Portfolio Management (6–9 years for Lead; 9+ for Principal)
  • Ability to identify, align, and support Portfolio-level OKRs
  • Experience with Portfolio Roadmapping, EPIC management, and value stream alignment
  • Ability to develop dashboards, metrics, and value tracking tools
  • Experience facilitating Portfolio Kanban and intake processes
  • Familiarity with hybrid governance environments (PLM, LPM)

 

Leadership & Influence (Principal Level)

  • Ability to lead strategic value optimization initiatives across multiple portfolios
  • Experience advising senior leaders or influencing enterprise portfolio decisions
  • Ability to mentor VMO and Portfolio teams on best practices
  • Ownership of value frameworks, continuous improvement cycles, and strategic metrics

 

Certifications & Tools

  • SAFe 6.0 LPM Certification (required for Lead; strongly preferred for Principal)
  • SAFe Program Consultant, EBAS, Agility Health Radar, or similar credentials preferred
  • Experience with portfolio management, value stream tooling, or related analytics platforms

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Lead: 6–9 years relevant experience
  • Principal: Typically 10+ years with demonstrated enterprise-level impact

The salary/hourly range is $103,700 - $134,460 for the Lead Value Management Specialist and $124,600 - $161,352 for the Value Management Specialist. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
