SUMMARY OF DUTIES: 
The Lead Software Engineer (SAP IBP) provides high quality software systems by analyzing requirements, providing technical design, developing software, supporting testing and deployment. The Lead Software Engineer works closely with customers, business analysts and team members to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions. These solutions must be aligned with business and IT strategies and in compliance with the organization’s architectural standards. Responsible for analyzing and bringing new technology trends in the industry to Amtrak. The role is also a point of escalation for operational support for assigned systems.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides technical leadership as part of a diverse team and provides consistent ownership for increasingly complex deliverables.
  • Works on projects that may span a broad range of systems. Requires expertise in multiple technical environments and possesses an increased level of business knowledge. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following: 
  • Organizes and documents technical requirements. 
  • Collaborates with enterprise architect and infrastructure to integrate applications and hardware.
  • Ensures that the design and application implementation meet security and QA standards. 
  • Evaluates new application packages and tools. 
  • Provides multiple recommendations for the solutions. 
  • Participates on teams that outline the process and scope out the improvements that can be realized through the application solution.
  • May lead the deployment of new modules, upgrades, and fixes. 
  • Defines, develops, or modifies software application modules or enterprise‐wide software systems using disciplined development processes.   
  • Identifies better sources of data feeds and interfaces with architects to ensure their feasibility with corporate data warehouse, when needed.
  • Documents functions and changes to new or modified modules, test activities/results and other areas such as error handling and backup/recovery procedures. 
  • Makes modules production‐ready by moving them to libraries, completing forms, following procedures, completing version control documents, etc. 
  • Provides ongoing maintenance of applications. 
  • May produce and analyze data extracts from system based on user requirements. 
  • May coordinate preventative maintenance activities between vendors, IT and the business, including the installation of service packs, patches, and hot fixes.
  • Analyzes/monitors applications to ensure that the functionality and performance meets all product and service level requirements.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems or Business Management with 6+ years relevant experience or 10+ years relevant work experience in subject matter expert capacity required to satisfy education and experience requirements. 
  • Key Functional role for Procurement and Supply Chain Enhancements and Operational Support for SAP ECC. 
  • SAP MM must possess a unique combination of both functional understanding of the indirect and direct procurement business process in SAP ECC and in SAP S4 Hana. 
  • This position requires significant experience in designing, configuring, enhancing, and supporting SAP ECC and S4 Hana solutions for direct spend (Material Master, Vendor Master, RFQ, Outline Agreements, Material Requirement Planning, Purchase Requisition, Order, Inventory Management & Material Accounting) and Integration with Business Network
  • This is key Functional role responsible to design and build system solution for planning functions on SAP IBP and other planning tools to drive Enhancements and Operational Support for IBP Solutions including SAP ECC Material Requirement Planning. 
  • SAP IBP knowledge of IBP Invenntory Optimization and Demand Modules.

 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Strong documentation and communication skills. Ability to articulate complex architectures in actionable terms.
  • Have a broad level of understanding surrounding information systems and application architecture standards. 
  • Perform development of customer enhancements, and maintenance tasks using expertise with Structured Query Language (SQL) Server, Oracle.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and in a flexible environment.
  • Must possess the ability to utilize adaptable communication skills to effectively translate between technical and business language.
  • Ability to identify, propose and oversee the execution of business solutions as well as interpret documents communicating business needs and requirements. 
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills ‐ both oral and written.
  • Must be a problem solver, team player and demonstrate flexibility to adjust to fluid business requirement changes.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand complex applications and technologies.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 8+ years relevant experience  
  • Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, specialized training, certification, or equivalent work experience. 
  • Experience in travel, hospitality, or transportation industries 

 

WORK ENVRIORNMENT:

  • Work is performed in an Hybrid work environment. 
  • Onsite Hybrid Position must be on premises 2-3 days per month.    
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  
The salary/hourly range is $103,700 - $134,460. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
