This position is responsible for providing employment-based immigration support to the Labor & Employment section of the Law Department and litigation support to the Litigation section of the Law Department in all matters before federal and state courts and administrative agencies.




  • Prepare and review nonimmigrant visa petitions, including H-1B, TN, L-1, and E-1/E-2, petitions for filing with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
  • Prepare and review PERM labor certification applications, I-140 Immigrant Petitions, Adjustment of Status/Consular Processing applications and employment authorization and Advance Parole extension applications. 
  • Coordinate immigration processes with department heads, employees and outside counsel.
  • Create and maintain H-1B Public Access files in order to comply with Department of Labor regulations.
  • Conduct pre-trial factual investigations; interview potential witnesses; prepare case summaries and memoranda.
  • Collect, organize, research and analyze information, documents and electronic data in support of Amtrak’s position in lawsuits filed by or against the corporation and as required for the preparation of the company’s discovery responses.
  • Perform research projects.
  • Respond in a thorough and timely manner to subpoenas and other requests for information.
  • Conduct electronic data and e-mail searches.
  • Other special projects and litigation support duties as assigned.




  • Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate
  • 2-4 years of employment-based immigration experience 
  • Relevant experience working in a large law firm or corporate legal department environment 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with internal clients and outside counsel. 
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.  
  • Excellent prior job performance
  • Experience with electronic document searches.
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload 
  • Ability to organize and analyze large volumes of information and documents.
  • Work under pressure and meet constant deadlines.
  • Work with a variety of personalities in a strong team environment.

  • Litigation experience in a large law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Experience working with railroads or other industrial environments with extensive personnel policies, labor agreements, and discipline processes.




  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
