National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) has an opening for a Principal Application Systems in Washington DC.

Duties: Develop, create, and modify computer applications software or specialized utility programs. Analyze user needs and develop software solutions. Provide technical leadership for the design, development, and support of complex mission-critical business applications, including mainframe, client-server and web-based applications Establish detailed application designs (including design patterns/frameworks), ensure alignment of developed software with designs, and to work closely with Marketing to define technical requirements, statements of work, select vendors and system solutions. Support the establishment of a software engineering culture within the organization and works with technical staff to understand and resolve Tier 3 level technical issues related to applications. Create optimization programs to resolve problems and development of prototypes for proof of concept activities, assisting in development of technical documentation, leading demonstrations of developed software, and mentoring development staff. Establish detailed application designs (including design patterns/frameworks) and ensure alignment of developed software with designs. Develop statements of work, select vendors and system solutions. Lead the design, development, and maintenance of reliable, high volume, complex applications in mainframe, client-server and web environments.

Requirements: Employer will accept Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, followed by 10 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in job offered or 10 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in a related occupation. Must include experience in each of the following: 1) Java; 2) MuleSoft Cloudhub; 3) AWS; 4) Oracle; 5) Websphere; 6) JEE; 7) Middleware; 8) SQL; and 9) API Gateway.
