National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) has an opening for a Principal Technologist in Washington DC.

Duties: Research and analyze advanced technology trends within area of required expertise. Identify emerging trends and initiate research projects for team members. Coordinate the assessment of emerging technologies. Evaluate and may recommend new products or tools for the organization. Contribute to cost-benefit and risk analysis and present options to management team. Partner with leadership to help define and communicate long-term technology strategy and planning for the enterprise. Assist and/or may lead in the development and analysis of source selection strategies. Work with service providers to ensure that their in-scope technical solutions are consistent with the enterprise business strategy and architecture. Serve as a consultant, trusted advisor, and escalation point (Tier 3) for issues. Provide project managers with technical consultation and advice, enabling quick response to inquiries related to the program/project. Provide technical analyses to help define, asses, and monitor the technical aspects of the program/project or services. Design innovative solutions using new technologies. Recommend short-term alternatives when appropriate. Propose designs at key milestone events. Troubleshoot existing information systems or networks to identify errors or deficiencies. Brainstorm possible solutions and evaluate alternatives against decision criteria. Lead and coordinate the resolution of support issues escalated by senior operations, development personnel, or service provider personnel. Guide vendors during the problem resolution process as needed.

Requirements: Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field and seven years of progressive, post- baccalaureate work experience in the job offered or seven years of progressive, post- baccalaureate work experience in a related occupation. Experience must include: 1) Jboss; 2) Websphere; 3) AWS; 4) Middleware platforms; 5) Monitoring -Sitescope/App Dynamics/EFK/Kibana; 6)Salesforce CRM; 7) IBM MQ; 8) Data Analytics (SQL/Oracle/Dynamo/Redshift); 9) Mulesoft; and 10) AEM. Position requires 10% travel to various, unanticipated work locations.
