Job Summary
The Sr. Director DT Sys Design & Dev. oversees one or more DT services end to end which serve the needs of internal or external customers within Amtrak. Certain services may span across multiple functional areas. This role owns the Change the Business and Run the Business budgets associated with their services and ensures optimum utilization of investment against the company priorities.
Sr. Director DT Sys Design & Dev. is the single point of contact (SPOC) in front of the customer for all aspects of a service and is accountable for ensuring that a service is managed with a business focus. He/she is responsible to the customer for the initiation, elaboration, construction, transition, and ongoing maintenance and support of a particular service. The Technology Owner is accountable to DT executive leadership for the performance of that dedicated service (including financial performance). The Technology Owner is also responsible for producing and maintaining documentation and materials regarding the service. This role manages a large team of diverse employees and contractors and ensures consistent and productive communication between team members, business partners, and customers. Translates business needs into clear deliverables from supporting Directors, Managers, and team members.
The Sr. Director DT Sys Design & Dev. role oversees all technologies associated with the following Enterprise Enablement offerings: Client Device Engineering, End User Digital Experience, Software Delivery, Field Services, Datacenter management, Deskside Services, Communication & Collaboration platforms, Citizen Development, and SAP Platform Engineering & Infrastructure. This role is also overseeing and delivering two critical programs, one for Infrastructure Risk Remediation and another for Hardware & Technology Refresh.
Essential Functions
Responsible for creating an integrated information technology plan to support one or more DT Services. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Partners with business leaders, Architects and Digital Product Owners to develop service strategies, roadmaps, and rationalize portfolios.
- Accountable and responsible as sole owner of all technology initiatives in the assigned Systems Design & Development portfolio.
- Develops and owns service definition and service design partnering with business owners, Architecture, and Product Owners. Ensures adoption of services within the DT service catalog.
- Responsible for managing a team of Directors, Managers, Technical Leaders among others and inspiring them and their teams to deliver at the highest level.
- Implement Cloud First, Mobile First, and Data Driven paradigms for all systems and services being built within the Service domain.
- Provides leadership in developing and deploying applications in Cloud based Platforms such as AWS, Azure, and other Native Cloud platforms.
- Participates in the governance board that defines the IT mission, oversees operations, and determines DT investments, and pricing and product strategies.
- Responsible for developing the Technology Strategy and a strategic view to the sourcing options. Comes up with the right criteria to pick the right offerings suiting the business and customer needs.
- Responsible for planning service budget across both CapEx and OpEx vectors. Tracks budget and takes appropriate steps to stay within budget.
- Oversee all service offerings within their assigned technology area and corresponding solution delivery teams. Responsible for delivering value to business/clients.
- Responsible for managing risk and security within the service in partnership with the CISO and the Risk and Compliance teams
- Manages service governance and applies metrics to services to measure against defined Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements. Responsible for delivering a particular service within the agreed service levels with the customer and with dependent IT teams negotiating Operational Level Agreements (OLAs).
- Partners to ensure IT Service Management processes, operational level agreements and underpinning contracts are appropriate for the agreed service level targets. Provides advice and counsel to the vendor relationship decision making and contract development processes.
- Provides leadership in continuous service improvement. Ensures technology provider's performance is reviewed and that contract managers are notified when necessary.
- Establishes measurable individual and team objectives that are aligned with business and organizational goals. Documents and presents performance assessments. Recognizes and rewards associates commensurate with performance. Implements organizational practices for staffing, performance management, development, reward, recognition, and retention.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field with 15+ years relevant experience or equivalent work experience.
- 15+ years of relevant work experience managing IT Operations teams delivering stable, reliable and business-enabling technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 15 years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven experience in managing diverse teams of 25+ employees and contractors
- Strong expertise in developing and deploying applications in Cloud based Platforms such as AWS, Azure, Adobe, Salesforce, MuleSoft and other Cloud native platforms
- Client expectation management, Program management, Financial management and Technology product delivery experience
- Business experience should include assignments in multiple business and technical processes and financial management
- Leadership experience in managing cross-functional teams and influencing executive level management and key stakeholders
- Requires demonstrated ability to launch and deliver multiple, concurrent IT initiatives on time and within budget
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated
The salary/hourly range is $206,200.00 – $267,192.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
