SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Big Data Engineering Intern will support the Marketing team in synthesizing various data domains and creating working models helpful for customer segmentation. This position will require the candidate to apply theoretical concepts to robust data sources and create meaningful insight that can be shared with senior leadership. Specifically, the candidate would provide analysis into various customer-based attributes like price sensitivity, travel history, promotional usage, psychographic profiles including brand loyalty. Additionally, the candidate will work closely with the Market Research and Analytics team to create customer segments that can be used in campaigns and product development. This role requires experience in SQL and Exploratory Data Analysis coupled with familiarity doing customer segmentation in some scientific programming language.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Python/R and SQL programming, familiarity with customer related data domains helpful
· Experience in the design, testing and reporting of various customer segmentation algorithms (KMeans++ and Hierarchical)
· Documentation and structured programming to support sustainable development practice
· Debugging and code-reading skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution
· Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related field
· Must have at least 3 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
· Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· First year graduate level studies or higher
· Provable experience with SQL and Python in the context of large data sources
· Some experience with unstructured data sources
· Experience with visualization tools such as Business Objects, Tableau or similar
· Understanding of data warehousing concepts including data integration for data warehouse objects
· Demonstrated skill in project planning and collaborating with groups
· Ability to describe challenges and solutions in both technical and business terms
· Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships at all organizational levels
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
