POSITION SUMMARY:

The Market Insight and Analysis business unit is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and analytical graduate student intern to join our team as a Market Research Analyst. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in designing and conducting new, innovative market research studies, analyzing data, reporting results to the broader organization, and helping improve Amtrak’s overall customer experience. Additional responsibilities will include managing multiple ongoing projects, organizing and creating reports from qualitative and quantitative data, working with internal and external market research partners, and informing key thought leaders within the company.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Use data to identify areas where Amtrak can improve the rider experience.
  • Help create fresh, innovative qualitative or quantitative research methodologies to test hypotheses.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify trends and opportunities in the rail industry.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data and analytics to support the development of business plans and strategies.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and dashboards to communicate findings and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate market insights into business operations.
  • Stay informed on industry developments and activity.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing a graduate degree in statistics, data analytics, computer science, marketing, anthropology or sociology.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic graduate studies completed.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in a relevant field.
  • The ideal candidate will have a social science (sociology, anthropology) and/or business background with experience in economics,
  • and/or statistics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Creative out-of-the-box thinking and a keen interest in identifying the “why” of consumer behavior.
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical software (e.g. Excel, R, SPSS, Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with market research vendors and/or agencies.

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc.  In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.

 

Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
