SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Have a passion for business strategy and for Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor? As an intern in Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor Service Line (NECSL), you will learn about and make a meaningful impact on the Northeast Corridor, the busiest railroad in North America. NECSL’s work focuses on working cross-functionally to maximize ticket revenue and ridership performance on America’s only high-speed route, the Acela, and Amtrak’s highest customer volume route, the Northeast Regional. 

You will have the opportunity to apply your academic background in both the office and field, and to gain firsthand field related work experience in the various aspects of complex business and operations of the Northeast Corridor (NEC). Individuals in this role use their knowledge of business strategy and performance to support assigned projects, including: 

  • Support development and implementation of Amtrak’s strategies to drive ridership and ticket revenue performance on the NEC 
  • Analyze business performance and identify opportunities for improvement 
  • Works with team members and subject matter experts to coordinate efforts on assigned projects


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend office meetings, field meetings, and conference calls
  • Research, collect and analyze data
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with management
  • Other specific work assignments may be determined based on the needs of project and program assigned to.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree within Business Administration, Business Management, Marketing, Finance, or Data Analytics.
  • Must have at least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Specific interest or desire to work in the railroad industry
  • Ability to synthesize and visualize data to distill meaningful insights  
  • Basic familiarity with business strategy frameworks and strategic planning 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and work with tight deadlines
  • Demonstrates a desire to learn and alignment with Amtrak’s core value of do the right thing, put customers first, and excel together 
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office software suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint 

 

WORK ENVRIORNMENT:

  • Ability to travel 0-5%.


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc.  In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.

 

Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
