Job Summary
Participate in projects providing strong expertise and technical support, working closely with other engineers and cross-functional teams to perform systems analysis, design, development, integration, and enhancements. Enhance and develop company systems, including Cloud technology, middleware/DB platforms, networking, infrastructure, packaged applications, system integration, or software development. Support change requests, resolving Tier-3 trouble tickets, monitoring platforms for failures/exceptions/threshold issues, performance tuning, optimizing application performance, and testing applications for product upgrades and patches. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements driving the analysis and design of quality technical solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals, IT strategies, and organizational architectural standards.
Essential Functions
- Participate in and support the systems development approach as an engineering exercise. I ensure requirements and specifications are clear, follow a documented development/build methodology, and make sure a robust unit, system, and integration testing regimen is followed to deliver solutions per design.
- Outline, develop, and document clear requirements and technical specifications following an established methodology.
- Create and update documentation as necessary to ensure architectures, designs, and other descriptions are up-to-date and describe the as-deployed system.
- Consult in the development/build planning process with customers, IT business system analysts, architects, information security, and other team members.
- Contribute to or develop technical solutions to meet defined requirements including changes, enhancements, or development of new infrastructure, platforms, and other systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 2 year of relevant work experience.
- Hands on experience administering and configuring enterprise access control systems such as Lenel OnGuard and Genetec Security Center.
- Proven background in low voltage systems, including door hardware integrations, badge readers, intrusion sensors, and cable management.
- Skilled in deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting security specific software platforms, including badge management, alarm monitoring, and event workflow systems.
- Experience with Axis IP cameras, including installation, VMS integration, firmware management, and video analytics configuration.
- Strong understanding of physical security infrastructure end to end—access control, video surveillance, intercoms, and network based security devices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive experience in systems development and/or systems analysis
- Mastery of multiple program languages, infrastructure components or technology platforms
- Broad level of understanding of information systems and systems architecture and integration standards
- Ability to focus on business goals while ensuring development is completed on time
- Ability to work well under deadlines and in a flexible environment
- Knowledge of business operations and systems requirements processes and ability to apply technical solutions to meet business needs
- Ability to utilize adaptable communication skills to effectively translate between technical and business language
- Ability to identify, propose and oversee the execution of business and IT solutions as well as interpret documents communicating business and IT needs and requirements
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Access Control & Video System Administration – Skilled in managing and supporting platforms like Lenel OnGuard and Genetec Security Center, including system configuration, user/group management, and device integrations.
- Low Voltage & Hardware Integration Expertise – Strong understanding of door hardware, electrified locks, badge readers, panel wiring, PoE devices, and infrastructure powering security systems.
- IP Video Surveillance & VMS Management – Experience configuring Axis IP cameras, VMS rules, video retention policies, firmware, and network-based video troubleshooting.
- Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis – Ability to diagnose issues across software, hardware, and networking layers in complex security ecosystems.
- System Design & Documentation – Proficient in creating requirements, diagrams, installation standards, and maintaining accurate system architecture documentation.
Environmental Conditions/Physical Demands
The salary/hourly range is $65,500.00 – $84,888.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
