SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The application architect is responsible for have line-of-sight to application development efforts to ensure applications development efforts will satisfy both business need and technology roadmaps. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of multiple agile development methodologies, including the development and ongoing maintenance of the strategy and oversight of Dev/Sec/Ops to further improve agility using industry principles of cloud, software as code and self-deployment of testing environments. Specifically, the successful candidate will:
- Partner with the Application and Operations teams ensuring the solutions accommodate and enable effective deployment and ongoing operations
- Define/Maintain Cloud, Services and DevOps application design, development and deployment guidelines and standards
- Design - Works with software engineers and other architects to define and refine the product structure to align with the business, development, deployment, and maintenance needs
- Build & maintain relationship with vendor partners by organizing periodic briefing with Vendors, SMEs from development & service delivery teams, vendor roadmaps, new capabilities, etc.
- Develop technical prototypes and code as required
- Develop and maintain standards in line with best practices
- Ensure adherence to architecture and standards with strong, clear communication with Product Managers/Owners and the Development Teams
- Works with technical systems specialist, business systems specialists from the impacted application groups/3rd parties to understand the current state and constraints for defining the future state architecture & related interfaces "
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Leadership of Dev/Sec/Ops Strategy.
- Responsible for collaborating with Service and Business owners to create an architecture and technology plan to support one of more IT Services / Service Offerings. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following: (See Amendment)
- Collaborates with the peers and service owners to ensure service offering is consistent in process and spirit with the Service Offering
- Confers with IT Service Offering leader and direct reports to develop a plan to ensure architecture is driving technology plans and delivery of technology
- Establishes measurable individual and team objectives that are aligned with business and organizational goals. Documents and presents performance assessments.
- Recognizes and rewards associates commensurate with performance. Implements organizational practices for staffing, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), diversity, performance management, development, reward and recognition, and retention
- Develops an overall mobile application architecture to drive decisions on frameworks, development languages and libraries for development
- Ensures consistency of approach amongst multiple application teams
- Collaborates with mobile development teams to improve the SDLC and achieve faster time to delivery
- Provides direction for solicitations and choice of vendors and technologies supporting and driving mobile development
- Provides expertise in technical analysis and solving technical issues during project delivery
- Architect and design backend APIs to support a common backend framework within each business domain
- Collaborates with security and solution architects to ensure a complimentary approach to development to ensure a consistent user experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field with 11+ year’s relevant experience or equivalent work experience.
- 15+ years of relevant work experience in business systems, development and/or support functions with a focus on Architecture and Technology Strategy.
- Client expectation management, Program management, Financial management and Technology product delivery experience is required.
- 11+ years of relevant technical and business managerial experience with 2 to 3 years leading an Architecture Practice.
- May require knowledge of one processes/services. Business experience should include assignments in multiple business and technical processes.
- Technical and/or ITIL, or equivalent Certifications
- Must have expert knowledge as described in amendment.
- Requires leadership experience in managing architecture teams and influencing executive level management and key stakeholders.
- Requires demonstrated ability to manage multiple architecture engagement and effectively plan and use staff to ensure the architecture view
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management, or similar relevant field
- 13+ years of relevant work experience preferred
- Experience working in large complex companies that heavily rely on real time 24x7 IT operations to successfully service external customers.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary range is $160,410-$207,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
