SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
This position requires utilization of  existing documentation coupled with in-field research/measurements to develop basic CADD models, then translation of that information using Adobe Illustrator and other software to generate diagram and key data files of all of Amtrak’s rolling stock. This critical data will be maintained on the Company Intranet-accessible visual database and will be used for internal reference across the Amtrak system and will be the governing document for approved vehicle arrangements. This data will be referenced by company personnel and provided, as situations require, to regulators such as the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), as well as part of discovery in legal / claims cases.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Gathers existing drawing data, field survey information and vehicle critical data from existing files, field research and Amtrak individuals.
• Creates each vehicle model in Solid Works by adapting existing CADD files, interpreting non-vector files and field-gathered information.
• Reviews drawing and data with Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) to ensure the accuracy of each drawing and data set.
• Uses templates to process the drawing and data into the Intranet-accessible database.
• Uses Amtrak’s EPDM (Enterprise Product Data Management) system to gain approvals of drawing data.
• Produces very accurate drawing and data files.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associates Degree or equivalent experience using 3D and 2D CADD and Graphic Design systems
• Experience in creating large 3D assemblies and translation between various visual programs.
• Experience with rail vehicles or other large vehicles is helpful
• Proficient in the use of Solidworks, 
• Proficient is the use of Draftsight or Autocad
• Proficient in the use of Adobe Illustrator
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
• Ability to interpret complex assembly drawings.
• Ability to develop dimensioned sketches from field measurements
• Effective writing and interpersonal communication skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Industrial Design, CADD, Engineering or Graphic Design background preferred
• Basic understanding of railroad passenger equipment and terminology preferred.
• Ability to research vehicle data, specifications and drawings originating from various companies.
• Detail oriented.
• Production oriented

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
