SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Ensure the safety and of repair personnel, equipment and vehicles assigned to the Independent Track gangs, (North and South). Manage the maintenance and repair activities of the Both Independent Track Production Units, while providing assistance and oversight for the repairmen. To include a planned maintenance program, overhaul program, and failure response. Provide service write-ups and material requirements for equipment scheduled to the equipment shops; will utilize the Maximo Database System to maintain an accurate inventory level and status of Engineering Departments Production Equipment

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist in the development and implementation of an effective safety program for assigned personnel, including compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations. 

•    Responsible for ensuring that assigned equipment is safe to operate, load tested and complies with Federal safety standards. Outfit equipment with necessary apparatus to ensure the safety of the public, operating employees, and equipment. 

•    Responsible for training program ensuring assigned personnel are qualified to maintain equipment to which they are assigned. 

•    Directly supervises assigned Repairmen at various locations along Amtrak’s northeast corridor. 

•    Maintains material inventories to support the planned and unplanned maintenance of assigned equipment in the field. 

•    Plan and implement preventative maintenance programs as well as heavy equipment repairs at shops.

•               Responsible for the operating budget of repair personnel as well as parts to support assigned equipment. 

•               Implement and maintain a strong troubleshooting program among assigned repairmen and equipment operators; audit operator performance with respect to qualifications, equipment start-up, safety check list, RMM logs, general handling of equipment and report findings to gang management


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in mobilized maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment, preferably Maintenance/Way machinery.
High School or Technical School Grad. Experience in Engines (Gas & Diesel) Hydraulics and Pneumatic Systems. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of roadway equipment and vehicle maintenance. Candidate must be computer literate and have good communication skills.
• Demonstrated managerial experience. 
• Experience in managing budgets 
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, self-starter requiring little direction 
• Demonstrated experience in using PC-based word processing and spreadsheets 
• Demonstrated experience in working effectively with multiple inter-disciplinary teams 
• Demonstrated experience in equipment maintenance with knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic components and systems of heavy construction equipment. 
• Experience in developing work plans to include scope, material take-off and budget • Experience with labor agreements 
• Experience working in data-based programs such as Maximo and SAP • Experience in preparing annual operating budget 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in managing complex programs in an operating environment. 
•     Demonstrated experience in work and asset management applications, preferably IBM’s Maxim
•    Knowledge of mechanical systems and troubleshooting processes 
•    Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience • Must have a High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:
•    Demonstrated hands on experience in the Electric Traction field. 
•    Must have supervisory experience. 
•    Project Management and Planning/Scheduling

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
