SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Lead, Benefits (Wealth) plays a key role within Amtrak’s benefits team, focusing on the design, development, and execution of retirement and financial wellbeing programs. This role leads initiatives related to retirement administration processes, policies, systems, and practices, including defined benefit and defined contribution plans.  The Lead is responsible for managing vendor relationships, ensuring service level expectations are met, and guiding account management teams. This position also serves as the primary liaison for benefit plan audits, working closely with auditors to ensure compliance with plan documents and regulatory standards.  

A core focus of this role is driving continuous process improvement across retirement and financial benefit operations. The Lead leverages deep knowledge of systems and integrations to identify inefficiencies, recommend enhancements, and implement solutions that streamline workflows, improve data accuracy, and elevate the employee experience.   

Additionally, the Lead conducts strategic and operational analysis, supports business process improvements, and drives resolution of wealth-related issues. This role contributes to the development of innovative benefit strategies that empower employees to protect, build, and grow their wealth—both in the short term and for long-term retirement planning. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Leads execution of daily operations including funding, escalations, and process improvements by leveraging systems knowledge and integration capabilities to boost operational efficiency. 

2. Proactively tracks and evaluates changes in benefits legislation, advising leadership on implications and ensuring retirement programs remain compliant and strategically aligned with evolving regulations. 

3. Manages vendor partnerships to ensure delivery of high-quality services, optimal performance, and full utilization of provider expertise to enhance employee outcomes. 

4. Acts as the primary contact for retirement plan audits, ensuring timely coordination, accurate documentation, and adherence to all plan and regulatory requirements. 

5. Partners with internal teams and external vendors to craft and deliver clear, engaging communications that drive employee understanding and program engagement. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


•  College degree preferably in business, human resources, mathematics or accounting 

•  Minimum of 5 years benefits experience in defined benefits, defined contributions plans and/or financial wellbeing space. 

•  Experienced at employing strategies related to protection, growth of short-term and long-term wealth needs of our population;     understands utilization and plan analysis methodologies  

• Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills. 

• Strong technical skills in payroll system and data analysis. 

• Collaboration and teamwork skills 

• Able to work effectively in a changing environment 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 5-8 years of experience with company sponsored retirement and financial wellbeing programs
• Experienced at employing strategies related to protection and growth of short-term and long-term wealth.
• Experienced with project management and/or vendor implementations.
•Firm understanding of utilization and plan analysis methodologies. 
• Progress towards CEBS designation desired

• Constantly works long hours as required; works extended hours and is required to be on call and available on an emergency basis.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The salary/hourly range is $94,300-$122,256, Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
