The Sr Equipment Maintenance Manager, through the application of electrical and/or mechanical expertise, increases rolling stock equipment availability and reliability by implementing more effective inspection, preventive, and corrective maintenance programs, including Reliability Centered Maintenance program changes. This position is responsible for leadership in establishing a day-to-day relationship with the Maintenance Facilities mechanical activities which include repair of Bad Order locomotives and cars throughout the United States and assisting in any mechanical requirements for en-route train service.




  • Directs development of long term programs for equipment and vehicle utilization and maintenance.
  • Directly responsible for M/W system roadway equipment shop and all satellite roadway equipment shops on & off corridor system wide.
  • Responsible to adjust and introduce new equipment specifications and modifications to comply with FRA, ANSI & OSHA regulations pertaining to roadway equipment ergonomical attributes. 
  • Position is responsible for development, training and testing, implementation and compliance relative to a comprehensive roadway equipment safety plan.
  • Responsible for equipment and vehicle availability for capital projects among all disciplines to ensure effective implementation.
  • Ensure operational readiness of specialized roadway equipment and railroad machinery in the areas of major railway maintenance, including contract services, 
  • This position has budget responsibilities of approximately $90M in railway roadway equipment inventory to include introduction of cost savings initiatives of off and on track equipment.
  • Monitors and records productivity to ensure efficient use of resources and makes procedural changes where necessary.
  • Develops policies, practices and procedures relating to future needs for the Superintendent Engineering Production.




  • 10-20 yrs. Experience in Heavy Construction or M/W Equipment.
  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or a related field or the equivalent combination of training, education and/or experience
  • Extensive experience in railroad operations and procedures.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated technical experience with regard to track systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in railroad construction and maintenance methods.
  • Extensive knowledge of MW1000, NORAC, RWP, AMT II, and applicable FRA rules and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills using PC-based spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel, Access); Microsoft Word, PowerPoint 
  • Must be familiar with PLC controls and micro processors
  • Must be versed in complex roadway equipment hydraulics, electronics, and pneumatic systems including the technical knowledge of logic prints and schematics, plus systems testing.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.




  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or professional certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex programs in an operating environment.
  • Combination of office and field environment
  • Travel up to 50%
