Job Summary
The Lead Employment Investigations Specialist leads the most complex and sensitive workplace investigations and sets a high standard for timely, thorough, and fair case handling. This role ensures every investigation is managed with a strong objectivity and in full alignment with company policies, investigation standards, and the organization's expectation for consistent and compliant case handling. The Lead Employment Investigations Specialist is responsible for managing cases within an assigned territory and will travel across the region to conduct on-site investigations while providing guidance to local managers/leaders and mentoring other investigators as needed.
Essential Functions
- Independently leads thorough, impartial, and timely investigations into complex and sensitive internal disputes, using best practice investigatory procedures, and maintaining thorough records.
- Prepare effective investigative plans through collecting and analyzing witness statements and documentary evidence to make credibility determinations.
- Prepare thoughtful and thorough investigative reports and recommendations for corrective action.
- Advise and assist managers and other internal stakeholders on matters connected to investigation findings, helping them understand workplace dynamics, implications, and recommended action.
- Educate managers and employees, through one-on-one interactions and formal trainings to support the prevention of workplace issues, reinforce conduct expectations, and encourage early reporting and resolutions. Provides informal coaching and feedback to strengthen investigative capability and ensure consistency across casework.
- Independently identify trends and recurring concerns across investigations and partner with internal stakeholders to address emerging issues, strengthen workplace practices, and support a proactive employee relations strategy.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.

- Ability to work independently and ensure investigations are completed within appropriate timelines
The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 – $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
