SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Director of Commercial Performance serves as a key driver of top-line revenue growth across Amtrak’s commercial organization, ensuring alignment with established strategies and goals. This role leads cross-functional collaboration among critical commercial teams—including Pricing & Revenue Management, Digital & Brand Marketing, Loyalty & Customer Engagement, Service Planning, Product Development, and Customer Experience—across the Northeast Corridor (NEC), Long Distance, and State Supported service lines.
The Director is responsible for developing and executing a unified framework that aligns commercial functions around shared objectives at the network, service line, and route levels. In close partnership with the Commercial Strategy team, this role translates annual strategic plans into actionable seasonal segments, driving performance down to the route level.
By embedding a data-driven commercial discipline and proactively managing tradeoffs, the Director maximizes Adjusted Operating Income (AOI) and route profitability, ensuring financial predictability and strategic execution across the enterprise.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years in a topline-revenue commercial management function such as Pricing, Revenue Management,  Marketing, Loyalty, Planning and/or strategy consulting, with a focus on the transportation sector or other network businesses with a proven ability to influence across multiple P&Ls. This Director will enhance commercial performance relative to forecast and route profitability, giving Amtrak the financial predictability it needs to invest in a modern, customer focused rail network.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Owns collaborative framework to drive alignment across all commercial functions to achieve common objectives at network, service line, and route levels
• Develop process together with other departments to prioritize initiatives that are ready to advance
• Chairs periodic “commercial triage” huddles for high volatility routes, maintain the KPIs, and trigger corrective revenue actions when gaps emerge.
• Partners with the State Supported Service Line and Amtrak State Partners to deliver route-level commercial performance support
• Meets with and presents to senior Amtrak management, and external stakeholders, on a regular basis

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
Proven experience in strategic planning, business development, and stakeholder engagement.
Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling and performance measurement.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex matrix environments.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in Business Administration.
10+ years of experience in commercial business or strategy, planning, or consulting, preferably in transportation, network-based industries, or hospitality.
Experience working with regulators or external partners.
Familiarity with behavior-based safety cultures and enterprise performance frameworks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Frequent use of computer and office equipment.
Regular interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
Occasional travel required for stakeholder meetings and corridor planning sessions.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The salary/hourly range is $163,000-$211,140, Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
