SUMMARY OF DUTIES

 

The Director/Sr Director acts as a leader in articulating audit strategies for oversight of Amtrak’s Independent Public Accountant (IPA), generating and implementing annual audit work plans, effectively interacting with all levels of Corporate and IPA Management, fostering new and innovative audit techniques, demonstrating flexibility in changes to audit strategies, and acts as a role model to staff auditors.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The incumbent is responsible and accountable for managing and overseeing audits in the assigned financial area, including the following duties:

 

  • Plans and directs Office of Inspector General (OIG) oversight of Amtrak’s IPA. 
  • Applies to the monitoring work, audit and accounting standards, principles, and regulations including Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and OIG policies and regulations.
  • Completes oversight activities within planned timeframes and produces audit reports and other work products that are accurate, clear, concise, and meet OIG standards.
  • Reviews and approves all work performed by subordinates to include work plans, papers, reports, and includes using TeamMate as the OIG’s automated work paper system.
  • Manages staff, mentors and provides feedback to improve their skills.
  • Assists the Assistant Inspector General for Audits (AIGA) in developing goals for the audit organization that supports the OIG’s overall mission and objectives.
  • Provides input into the annual audit work plan by assessing areas of Amtrak’s financial operations with the highest risk and recommending audits for inclusion.
  • Manages consultants/contractors assigned to the audit team.
  • Maintains effective and highly productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and fosters teamwork, collaboration, and coordination.
  • Assists office leadership in staffing, recruitment, and hiring efforts.
  • Leads internal efforts for organizational improvement.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  • Must have a 4-year degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Economics, or Computer Science.
  • Must have 8 or more years experience performing audit/accounting or information technology related work involving directing audit resources and personnel.
  • 5 or more years experience in managing and developing employees.
  • Must have a CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE certification. (CPA strongly preferred)

 

PREFERRED:

 

  • Relevant experience planning and supervising GAGAS-compliant performance audits, including performance audits of programs, operations, or other business functions.
  • A master’s degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Economics, or Computer Science.
  • Seven or more years in the OIG community.

 

 

COMPENSATION:

 

The hiring salary range the Director/Sr Director Audits - Financial is $170,219 - $229,792. This is the starting salary range and does not reflect the full salary range of the position.
